First let’s define the term anxiety: Anxiety is a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome. However there are many different anxiety disorders and I have videos about most of them, so you can click through the playlist in the description for more info about specific ones like generalized anxiety disorder or panic disorder. Because anxiety can cause us to avoid certain situations that could make our anxiety worse or trigger a panic attack, we can avoid a lot of social situations or not engage in what could be considered normal activities (like not joining choir or an art group or playing sports, or even going to happy hour after work with our colleagues). It is my belief that because we can feel too scared to participate fully in our life we can in turn struggle to “grow up.” When we don’t grow up at the ages most people do we call that being developmentally arrested. There is much research supporting that BPD can lead to arrested development, as well as any sort of childhood trauma & intense substance abuse. When it comes to trauma I believe we can’t move on past that time until we process it through. So most often my patients will feel stuck or arrested at the age their abuse began. Also, I don’t want anyone to think that we have to grow up completely and lose our sense of childlike wonder or excitement. That’s not what I mean.. What I mean is that we emotionally and psychologically feel like we are growing up. Able to hold onto parts of our childhood that help or serve us and let go of those things that don’t.
In that same way, if life in many ways just feels like too much to us and we would prefer to not engage, we can get stuck and not “grow up” as quickly as those around us. Does that make sense? If you disagree I would love to hear your thoughts and why you think it’s happens in the comments below. But now let’s move onto how we can overcome it: 1. Resourcing 2. Building on healthy relationships (specifically with siblings to do fact checking) 3. CBT – using the downward arrow technique 4. Medication can help with anxious feelings if you are drowning in the symptoms 5. Processing through trauma (EMDR, talk therapy, trauma focused CBT, etc). Hi, I’m Tobias.

I spent most of my 20’s depressed, lonely and on strong antidepressants. By age 27, I had given up on ever overcoming my social anxiety & shyness. Even worse than that, I had given up on myself. I was my own worst enemy, always calling myself harsh names like ‘loser’ and ‘ugly.’ I hated myself and believed I was worthless.

I thought I was ‘weak’ and ‘broken’ for having social anxiety and felt inferior to just about everyone in the world. Like most people, I grew up believing the narrative we are sold by society. You were born confident or you weren’t. You were good with people or you weren’t. You either have it or you don’t, and I certainly didn’t, better luck next lifetime.

In this video I talk about my lifelong struggle with social anxiety disorder. If you suffer from social anxiety disorder (aka social phobia), shyness or low self-esteem, let me know in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer your questions.

In this video men’s style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of http://www.iamalpham.com and http://www.aaronmarino.com, discusses 5 tips to overcome social anxiety. Social anxiety is something that can be beaten if you take action and control of the situation. You deserve to be happy and experience great times with good people. This video will help you deal with social anxiety and provides some helpful tips to overcome anxiety.

Do you get nervous and a little self conscious when you walk into a room of people you don’t know? Butterflies and anxiety are normal when getting up and giving a speech in front of people. Social anxiety is beyond that– it’s an absolute fear. It’s so strong that it prevents you from going places and doing things. It’s limiting happiness and the ability to socialize.

Social Anxiety Triggers

Aaron Marino of alpha m. says social anxiety an irrational fear of embarrassing yourself or getting intensely scrutinized. Alpha covers triggers: meeting new people, being the center of attention, making small talk, public speaking, being called out in class, eating in public, going out on a date, using a public bathroom.

Do You Have Social Anxiety?

Warning signs are stressing and being anxious about doing everyday things; worrying for weeks before an event; feeling that you constantly being judged or picked apart. Behavioral symptoms are deciding not to go to attend an event, bringing along a friend, standing in the background, or drinking before going to an event. If you have more fear than fun, take the steps to get your social anxiety in check.

Getting Social Anxiety Under Control
1.Challenge your own negative thoughts.
2.Learn to control your breathing.
3.Face your fear.
4.Seek professional help such as a therapist.
5.Medication.

“How To Overcome Shyness”.

Do you get really shy and nervous when it comes to being around the girls you like?

In this video, I’m going to share with you a few simple but important steps that you can take to go from being shy around girls and people, to being able to carry on a conversation with anybody.

Here they are.

1. Stop labeling yourself as “shy”. Remove this word from your vocabulary completely. [0:53]

2. Use “reframing” to switch your negative thinking into positive thinking [1:55]

3. Practice talking with new people. Start small, but do this every day. [2:10]

4. Bring more value to your conversations. Have interesting stories, teach, motivate people. [3:03]

When you stop calling yourself shy, reframe your negative thoughts into positive ones, get comfortable talking to new people, and bring more value to your conversations, talking to girls is going to be easy.

Overcoming your shyness is about letting go of the past and becoming who you were meant to be.

To your success,

Tripp
